Thank you Volunteer Party

The 2019 Committee invited all our wonderful volunteers to drinks and nibbles at the Dee Why Grand hotel on Thursday 12 December to say thank you! See the flier.

While the numbers were not large in comparison with the huge number of members who do volunteer at the club, it was a great chance to chat with others who might contribute in a completely different way.

If the 2020 Committee agrees, some kind of volunteer "thank you" event might become a regular tradition. There were more photos of the event (thank you Jen Ardill!) posted on our Facebook group.

Chris's wheelchair

Chris Dixon is a long term and much loved member at PBC. When his electric wheelchair broke down last week, members quickly rallied to his aid. $7,530 was raised!

This has enabled Chris to buy a brand new electric wheelchair to suit his specific needs. Chris is thrilled that he will be mobile again and wishes to pass on his thanks to everyone who has contributed. He is looking forward to being back at the Club and hopes to be able to make it to some night games as well.

Thank you all for your very generous support!

Melbourne Cup Day

What a day!! As Sue, our fabulous director said, ‘it was the best Melbourne Cup Day ever at PBC’. Great fun with friends, fabulous hats, fantastic food and wine, sweeps and of course, the reason we all come together as a club, bridge.

Vivien has loaded some pictures which you can see here.

Congratulations to all the fashionistas who made so much of an effort and special congratulations to our best dressed lady Katherine, a visitor to the club and friend of Beverly Schultz.

Premises Update

I am pleased to be able to share good news regarding our future clubhouse.

Council value our club and the community benefits which it delivers. They have been in close communication with the Club throughout this year.

It is allocating a large dedicated room within the new Warriewood Valley Community Centre for the club, designed to meet our particular needs. The room will be dividable, so that lessons , practice play or small sessions can take place in conjunction with regular duplicate sessions. The whole area will be used for our larger events.

2019 Interclub Pairs Wrap

Trumps proved victorious at Peninsula Bridge Club on Sunday 29 September in a closely fought battle for the Metro North Interclub Pairs Challenge, a few points ahead of Peninsula Bridge Club, with North Shore, Balgowlah-Dee Why and Manly Leagues filling out the remaining positions.

The event saw 72 pairs represent these five major clubs, the largest field ever for this event with its 36 tables somewhat higher than the three tables in the first time this event was run in 2008. Peninsula and the event organisers, led by convenor Cath Whiddon, were applauded for hosting a great event. Thanks to our volunteers who did not play and gave up their time to make it a great day: Bill, Joan, Bob and Andrew, also to Gayle who organised the catering.
