Six of us from Peninsula (Susan Eason, Sandy Carter, Sandie Rooke, Andrew Ikin, Sarah Young and Gayle King) travelled across the Blue Mountains to Orange for two days of bridge at the NSW State 2019 Novice and Restricted Pairs - March 23-24.
The countryside was very dry once we left the Blue Mountains and then we hit some heavy rain so let's hope it is a beginning of a good Autumn rainfall for the tableland farmers and gardeners.
Sandie and Andrew played in the Restricted (less than 300 MP) section. The rest of us played in Novice (less than 100 MP).
Dear Fellow PBC Members, with the end of February being half was through our financial year I thought I would report back on how we are going from a purely financial perspective.
Our half-year surplus is $25,701 compared to a loss last year of $1,344 so that is very positive.
We expect the size of the red section to grow on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, as an increasing number of players graduate from the green section.
Members will remember discussions among interested members have occurred over the last three months to work out the best ways of dealing with the need to progress experienced players from the green section and how to manage the impacts on other sections in the best way for our club's members.
The green section's primary goal is to provide a suitable environment for supervised session and beginner players looking to play in a regular duplicate for the first time. It accommodates a slower rate of play and allows growing familiarisation with duplicate session play, laws and etiquette.
Players often ask about alerting requirements.
This summary constitutes part of the ABF Alerting Regulations, and is intended as a brief guide to players.
Players should be familiar with the full regulations, and should try to support the fairness and enjoyment of our game by complying with both the letter and spirit of these guidelines.
Eight teams from Peninsula Bridge Club joined teams from across Metro North region at Trumps Bridge Centre on Sunday 10 Mar to battle for the Margaret Smale Interclub Teams Challenge trophy.
In the end Trumps managed to retain the Margaret Smale Interclub Teams Challenge trophy beating North Shore Bridge Club 12 to 11, well ahead of third placed Peninsula Bridge Club (who squeaked in ahead of Manly-Warringah Leagues Bridge Club). Only a few Peninsula teams did well throughout the day.
Congratulations to three of our directors-in-training, Nerida Gillies, Annegrete Kolding and Bruce Kleem, who have received advice of their successful ABF club director accreditation during the past month.
They will now complete their hands-on training in conjunction with some of our experienced member directors before running club sessions on their own.
Members may have noticed that at times, particularly when a major national congress is being held, that our member director body is stretched thin. Our club is very fortunate to have so many members prepared to direct, and we welcome these additional accredited directors.
To serve or supply alcohol in NSW typically requires a liquor licence.
Our club is a not for profit organisation and an exemption has been granted to allow us to supply/serve alcohol for up to six functions in a year without paying a license fee.
This means that the club can continue to offer alcohol as a contribution to the enjoyment of our key social events such as Melbourne Cup, the Christmas Party and our large congresses. We will still have the same number of bridge events throughout the year but will serve an alternative to alcohol at some of the smaller ones.
It is not too early to get your team together for our major Peninsula Swiss Teams Congress on Sunday 28 April. This is a chance to play some of the state's best players at our convenient home.
The day is traditionally a popular success and furthersPeninsula's reputation for hosting such events, a testimony to the large number of volunteers who assisted in diverse ways.
Can we beat last year's 33 teams? You can check last year's details and photos from the day.
