What we know about Alzheimers

"...maintaining physical, social and brain health is an important component of reducing dementia risk, which all Australians can implement in their daily lives. Learning a new language, picking up bridge, travelling and going back to study are ideal examples as they incorporate brain challenges and increase social engagement, which are both important for dynamically engaging the brain." (bolding added)

From an article "What causes Alzheimer’s disease? What we know, don’t know and suspect" by Yen Ying Lim and Rachel Buckley, published in The Conversation on 2 Jun 2017, and republished on 3 Aug 2019.

Kitchen Bridge success

Our first day on Sunday 14 July was a lot of fun - six tables, jazz and BYO wine. See the photos on our Facebook group.

We'll do it again one Sunday each month depending on other club commitments and the next session will be 18 August at 3pm.

Most tables remained with their original four but a couple of tables swapped over half way so we are quite flexible, whatever works for you. Hopefully we can accommodate all comers, singles, pairs or foursomes.

Congratulations Sandie!

Congratulations! Due to the efforts of Sandie Rooke, Peninsula Bridge Club now has another ABF Accredited Teacher. Your club will be able to display the Accredited Club certificates.

By completing the ABF Teaching Accreditation Program and becoming an ABF Accredited Teacher Club, you have demonstrated commitment to best practice and continuous improvement.

Well done and keep up the great work.

Regards
Allison Stralow (ABF President) and Joan Butts (ABF National Teaching Coordinator)

2019 Members and Novices Teams - Wrap

On Monday 23 June the Members and Novices Teams was a fun day with many novice members enjoying the first or second experience playing in a team event. Photos of all the teams can be found on our PBC Facebook Group - please consider joining this group!

It was well attended with two categories - a Green category with a partly experienced Novice pair combined with Restricted team mates, and a Blue category with a Novice pair with no teams experience combined with an Open pair. Everyone played the Peninsula Basic System to make it a pleasant more even playing experience for our novice players.

Peninsula Swiss Pairs Congress 2019

Join us for our second major congress of 2019 - this one being our Swiss Pairs event using IMP scoring. Check all the event details.

In 2018 the event was very well received by those that participated. Ronnie Ng did a great job as director and everything went very smoothly. Volunteer caterer Cassandra Mitchell provided wonderful food all day which was much appreciated.

The 2018 winners were Peter Jeffrey and Yimin Lee ahead of runners-up David Hudson and Paul Lavings. The Novice Prize (under 100) went to Sarah Young and Rob Scott and the best Peninsula Pair was Vivien Eldridge and David Farmer.
