Hans van Weeren

Hans takes Autumn Individual

Hans van Weeren won the 2018 Autumn Individual with a late charge - a mammoth score of 68.41% yesterday, the final Monday. This is all the more impressive as he only played three of the possible four weeks due to his expected partner having to pull out for one of the weeks - so he was not able to drop a poor score.

This is a repeat performance for Hans who also won the 2017 Autumn Individual - and continues his strong results across a range of events.

Hans won ahead of Vivien Eldridge and Anne Small. You can download the full results.

Little things that make a difference

Little things can make a huge difference to our enjoyment of the game and to the amount of work required to make the club hum. We highlight some of these little things below. Thank others when you see them done - and send your suggested "little things" to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

  • Putting your cup in the dishwasher or washing it up - and offering to do this for someone unable to do so
  • Leaving the table ready for the next session
  • Putting the section and table number on the table money slip
  • Being attentive when the director makes announcements

2018 Swiss Teams Congress

Thirty three teams, including twelve from Peninsula, played in the 2018 Swiss Teams Congress held on Sunday 22 April.

Thanks to Heidi Colenbrander and others we have an engaging photo record of the day (including all the winners) for all to enjoy. You can also check the full congress results.

The congress went well in spite of an unexpected triangle. The director, Ronnie Ng, did a fantastic job. The 33 teams included 6 ‘restricted’ teams. Gayle King and her helpers provided wonderful food all day which was much appreciated.

Jen, Susan and Kelly make 8!

The photo by Heidi Colenbrander captures the latest three members to become ABF Accredited Teachers.

Jennifer Ardill, Susan Oxfeldt Jensen and Kelly Barber have all reached the accreditation requirements with the teachers' 2/1 workshop held recently at Peninsula and been awarded their certificates.

This makes eight in total of our members to be so awarded, with five of them currently involved in our Bridge Education program. See Jennifer's ABF Teacher profile.

Betty Bevins significant birthday!

An unofficial photographer (Cath Whiddon) captured Betty Bevins being congratulated for a significant birthday on Tuesday 18 April.

The photo shows Betty with her partner Amanda Hickey and session director Vickie Busteed.

Betty, who joined a beginners class at the club in 2011, commented that "bridge has become the joy of my life".
